New Delhi : Union Minister for Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ chaired the national workshop on 5- year vision document and national education policy in New Delhi today. He addressed the Education Secretaries and other senior officials from the States and Union Territories (UTs) in this regard. While addressing the participants, the Minister emphasised on the importance of education for the development of the nation. He requested all States & UTs to hold consultations within their States and provide their tentative comments on the policy document by 31st July 2019. New Delhi : The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) conducts periodic national surveys to assess learning achievement of children in Classes – III, V, VIII and X. The National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2017 was held on 13th November for assessing the competencies developed by the children at the grade levels III, V and VIII from across 701 districts covering all the 36 States and UTs and covered 22 lakh students from 1.10 lakh schools. NAS (2017) was administered with districts as the unit of reporting in different subject areas such as languages, mathematics, EVS/Science and Social Sciences in the Government and Government aided schools. New Delhi :  Government of India deals only with the national level sports federations (NSFs) and grants recognition to them to become eligible to receive financial as well as other forms of assistance. Only 56 NSFs are recognised by the Government for different sports disciplines . This information was given by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today. He said that normally, elections are held by the NSFs at the intervals prescribed under the bye-laws of the concerned NSFs.
