GURUGRAM :<\/strong> Member Secretary, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), Prof. Sachidanand Joshi said that we are living in a \u2018overinformationized society’ where \u00a0whoever get whatever information holds it to be true and checking it is like doubting the self. He was speaking as Chief Guest in the inaugural session of 2-Day National Conference \u2018Manthan \u201819’on Media Literacy \u2013 Tools, Technology and Challenges. The Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology, SGT University organised it.<\/p>\n He brought some examples from the good old days when there was a ration of 1:10 \u2013 meaning that one newspaper is read by 10 people and today one person may read 3-4 newspaper but does not know which the accurate news is. He concluded his speech with a context-sensitive poem.<\/p>\n Eminent Journalist Satish Jacob presided the session and highlighted that we are bombarded with too much of information. It is hampering the thinking process as a whole. Verification of the information is important and not doing it has given birth to genesis of the problems.<\/p>\n Dr Anubhuti Yadav, Associate Professor and Head, Department of New Media at IIMC, New Delhi was the Key Note speaker on the theme of the conference and she started her presentation with few case studies and the effect of them and she further strengthened her argument by bringing in the difference between information literacy and media literacy. She brought forward some of the initiative and platforms which are functional in strengthening the cause. The point to be taken was the bifurcation of misinformation and disinformation and the further classification of them. While concluding her notes she suggested some practical tools to counter them.<\/p>\n Professor Sanjeev Bhanawat, Dean, Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology introduced the guests. While introducing the theme Professor Mukesh Kumar bought out the fact that we are living in mediatised society and it\u2019s a post-truth era. S. K. Pandey, Associate Professor, delivered his welcome speech. On this occasion, the abstract book and SGT Times newsletter was also released.<\/p>\n Two technical sessions were organized. The theme of the first session was Communication, Language and Media Literacy, Sarju Devi chaired the session. The theme of the second session was Media Literacy in the Context of Social Media, Dr Amitabh Shrivastava, Dean, Mass Comm. NIU chaired the session and Ms Shobha Dhanwatay, Director, Workskills Training Academy, Nagpur, Co-chaired the session.<\/p>\n Hampering the thinking process : <\/h3>\n
