New Delhi :. Kaamya Karthikeyan, a class VII student of Navy Children School (NCS), Mumbai, became the youngest girl in the world to summit Mt. Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America and outside of Asia. She summited the mountain peak of 6962 m height on 01 Feb 2020 and unfurled the Indian tricolour. Years of physical and mental preparation alongwith regular participation in adventure sports combined with strong character, helped the young girl in overcoming many administrative hurdles and extreme climbing conditions to achieve this rare feat.

At present 14669 sportspersons are getting training under various schemes of the Ministry, Out of these 8701 sportspersons are getting full time residential training. Trainees are provided assistance in the form of coaching, sports equipment, boarding, lodging, sports kit, competition exposure, educational expenses, medical/ insurance and stipend as per the scheme norms. Singh in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today said that the National Skill Development Mission (NSDM) was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 15th July, 2015, to provide a strong institutional framework to implement and scale up skill development efforts across the country. He said that under this, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is implementing its flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) (2016-2020). Under PMKVY (2016-2020), training is provided in various sectors including sports. These activities often involve speed, height, a high level of physical exertion and highly specialized gear. New Delhi : Government of India deals only with the national level sports federations (NSFs) and grants recognition to them to become eligible to receive financial as well as other forms of assistance. Only 56 NSFs are recognised by the Government for different sports disciplines . This information was given by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today. He said that normally, elections are held by the NSFs at the intervals prescribed under the bye-laws of the concerned NSFs.
