New Delhi : The Central Government has approved starting of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course with intake of 100 seats at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) & Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, New Delhi from the Academic Session, 2019-20. The Minister of State Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, here today

He said that as per section 10(A) of Medical Council of India (MCI) Act, Central Government Institutions are exempt for seeking permission from MCI for starting and increase of Under Graduate (UG)/ Post Graduate (PG)/ Super Specialty (SS) seats.

He also informed that Directorate General of Health Services (Dte.GHS) being the technical office of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), conducts physical inspection of the facilities as per MCI norms by sending a team of experts and only after the recommendations of the Inspectors/Assessors who are distinguished Medical Faculties, Dte.GHS recommends for issuing of Letter of Permission (LoP) by the Ministry.

To start the MBBS course, the existing infrastructure of the hospital will be utilized.
