Journalism should aim at public welfare : Ambekar

Not only the birth anniversary of great personalities, but their values should be imbibed

Gurugram : Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar today said that Maharishi Narada’s life was dedicated to the welfare of the people. He would utilize his knowledge and ability in the public interest, and this is the core of journalism.

Mr. Ambekar was speaking on the occasion of Narada Jayanti as the chief guest in the program “Apadakaal main patrakariye dharam” (journalistic responsibilities during the pandemic at the Gurugram University in Gurugram on Wednesday.

Speaking at a program organized jointly under the aegis of Vishwa Samvad Kendra and Gurugram University, Sunil Ambekar said that the country could not be driven direction on the basis of politicians’ dictate.

“Every section of the society will have to play its role in this direction. It is journalism to remind such people of their duty,” he added.

According to him, the role of journalists in the period of freedom movement served as a guide.

Mr. Ambekar said, “Not only writing, reading, but the knowledge and abilities that we have, whether they are being used in the interest of the society and the nation, this question is important. Knowledge should not be for self-fulfillment but for public welfare. This was the role of Narad ji.”

On this occasion Padam Shri awardee and senior journalist Mr. Alok Mehta, said that in every era, journalists have played an important role in times of crisis.

“Before independence, journalists played a role in changing power. But now writing has to be done to change the system. Don’t just criticize. The religion of positivity journalism should also be followed.”

Inaugurating the event, Vice-Chancellor, Gurugram University, Dr Markandey Ahuja said that India has been affected by many calamities. But there was no greater calamity than independence.

“The role of journalists in making the country independent during that period is exemplary. Embracing death and practicing journalism makes us proud. At that time, the remuneration of a journalist was a lot of water, two rotis, and 20 years of imprisonment. Still, he remained steadfast in his duty,” he added.

In this event, Prachar Pramukh of five states Anil Kumar, Vibhag Sangh Chalak Pratap Yadav, noted educationist Dr. Ashok Deevakar, RSS Co-state chief Dr. Lakshami Narayan, Mahanagar Sangh-chalak Jagdeesh Grover, freedom fighter Sangh Prant Sachiv Mahaveer Bhardwaj, Anuraag Kulshrestha, Anan Sharma, Vimal Sharma, Naresh Yadav, Surender Daima, Karyavawa Harish Kumar, Vibhag Pracharak Mahanagar Sanjiv Saini, Himanshiu, and the staffers oof the Gurugram University were also present.
